Madam L’Ashby is a Dadaist and Glomesher Extraordinaire

Dadaist extraordinare
The subversive alter-ego of Suzanne Ashby, Madam L’Ashby is an underground artist who distributes her art-form yearly by snail mail and sees the dada humour in everything.
Using non-digital photomontage reminiscent of the Dadaist art movement, Madam L’Ashby delivers a subversive, humourous political and social critique of contemporary news and celebrity culture. The work has been created over the past 30 years and is the artist’s much loved
annual calling card amongst friends and acquaintances, proudly displayed on refrigerators across Sydney’s inner west and beyond.
Glomesher extraordinare
The artist has an extensive Glomesh collection accumulated over many years from local op shops and vintage markets which is referenced in the artwork. She uses Glomesh pieces to create ‘ready-mades’ that don’t exist, such as handcuffs, gags and a loo seat, glamourising everyday objects into lifestyle articles.
